Introduction

Rama Chalisa is a devotional hymn composed in praise of Lord Sri Rama. It describes the divine qualities of Sri Rama, His valor, His grace upon devotees, and His omnipresence. This chalisa is attributed to Sri Haridas and glorifies the infinite power of Rama’s name. Unlike many chalisas, it begins directly with chaupai verses rather than an opening doha.

Significance

Regular recitation of the Rama Chalisa grants devotees mental peace, knowledge, and liberation. It is declared with the oath of Lord Shiva himself that reciting this chalisa ends the cycle of birth and death and leads to the attainment of all four goals of life — dharma (righteousness), artha (prosperity), kama (desire), and moksha (liberation). Recitation on Tuesdays and Saturdays is considered especially auspicious.

How to Recite

The Rama Chalisa should be recited in the morning after bathing, with a pure mind. Sit before an image or idol of Sri Rama, offer tulsi leaves and flowers, and begin the recitation. Reciting with discipline for seven consecutive days is said to bring special divine grace.
