Introduction

“Jai Ganesh Jai Ganesh Deva” is the most popular and widely sung aarti dedicated to Lord Ganesha. This aarti is sung in every Hindu household during worship. Lord Ganesha is revered as Vighnaharta (remover of obstacles) and the first deity to be worshipped, making this aarti an essential part of any auspicious ceremony.

Significance

The Ganesh Aarti holds special importance because Lord Ganesha is considered the first among all deities to be worshipped. This aarti describes His divine form, virtues, and glory. He is praised as the son of Mother Parvati and Father Mahadeva (Lord Shiva). Singing this aarti with devotion is believed to remove obstacles and fulfill the wishes of devotees.

How to Perform

  1. Light a ghee lamp or oil lamp before the idol or image of Lord Ganesha
  2. Place a lamp, flowers, rice grains (akshat), and incense on the aarti plate
  3. Sing the aarti while moving the plate in a clockwise circular motion before Lord Ganesha
  4. After the aarti, all devotees should join hands and bow in reverence
  5. Offer modak (sweet dumplings) or laddoo as prasad (sacred offering)
